Safeguarding for junior members
As a general policy the club wishes to be welcoming to junior players and to ensure that they enjoy their golf and social activity at Falmouth. The club management and committee developed a structured programme so that junior players may progress from complete beginners through to playing in adult and county competitions. Members will be aware of the presence of the juniors and we hope that they will receive every encouragement and occasional guidance !
The club management and committee have developed and put in place a Safeguarding Policy for the juniors in line with Sport England and Golf England guidelines. Copies are available from the office and will be available on the new website. Many committee members, staff and parents have also been to presentations linked to the policy, which has been well received. The purpose of this note is to highlight a few points for club members generally.
In order to ensure the wellbeing of our juniors all members should observe that :
- i) The welfare of children and young people is paramount
- ii) Any suspicion or allegation of abuse and poor practice will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately
- iii) All staff, volunteers and club members have a responsibility to report concerns to the Junior Organiser. If this person is considered to be inappropriate or is involved in the complaint, the Club Welfare Officer or the Managing Director may be approached directly.
- iv) If a child or young person says or indicates that he or she is being abused, or information is obtained which gives concern that a child or young person is being abused, the person receiving this information should respond carefully in line with the Safeguarding Policy. If in doubt, ask for help from any of the following.
